In Xamk ICTLAB learning environment locates a data center, which was built as part of the project Cybersecurity Expertise’s and Business model. It serves the platform for Virtual Laboratory System and enables collaboration with multiple projects and businesses.
VirtualLab is an increasingly powerful simulation environment designed to simulate large real-life scenarios where various systems and devices collaborate. It offers practical and cost-effective simulation, especially for cybersecurity students. Development began in 2015, with scalability and sustainability as key goals. Currently, VirtualLab operates on over 5,000 CPU threads and more than 30TB of RAM. It is primarily built using free and open-source software.
European Union's Just Transition Fund has invested 612 000 € in to the expansion of VirtualLab environment through Cyber-resilient Kymenlaakso project. The project utilizes VirtualLab environment for cybersecurity exercises geared towards local SME's, offering a platform where companies can safely train for cyber attack scenarios targeting their digital infrastructures, improving cybersecurity knowledge, preparedness and operational resilience.
